The University of Nyala is a public institution established on March 6th 1994 to achieve the following objectives: 
  1. Emphasize and consolidate Nation’s identity through curricula it approves and applies.
  2. Conduct community needs based applied research
  3. Innovate and apply technology to promote the Sudanese community in collaboration with other universities and   higher education institutions  
  4. Promote the environment in Sudan and South Darfur State in particular and train competent qualified human resources to promote it.  
  5. Interact with the rural population so as to understand the problems and recognize the traditional knowledge, work together in order to develop this knowledge in compliance with their needs and values.
  6. Pay importance to medical, earth and natural science in the frame-work of Sudan development.
  7. Involvement in human development, thought and religious values promotion issues.
  8. Train students to be awarded degrees.
 Mission and VisionThe University of Nyala plans and works to be:
  1. A University of Excellence offering research, training and community development programs in highest quality measurement.           
  2. A University of meetings where:
  1. Students compete.
  2. Community members dialogue and seek advice.
  3. Neighboring regions and countries from North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa as well as from Nile Africa and Niger- Senegal Africa meet through joint research, exchange of staff and students and academic symposia.
  4. Cultures and knowledge meet to advance technology and skills to promote the knowhow of the community.

 5. FACULTY OF LAW & SHARIAEstablished in 2003. it adopts a curriculum particularly adapted to cope with the local judiciary traditions and the national and international laws. It has departments of:

  1. GRADUATE COLLEGE
The college was established in 2003 to meet the increasing demand for higher education and coordinate research. The college offers 4 Post graduate Diplomas, 40 Ph. D. programs and 48 M Sc. Programs. It issues 2 Journals, one for Humanities and the other for applied sciences. 
  1. TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COLLEGE
Started as an Extra-mural Studies Unit in 1998 then promoted to a college in 2003. It offers Intermediate Diplomas ( three years program) in Computer science, Business administration, Accounting, Economics and Banking, English language, Arabic language, Tajweed and Islamic studies, Kindergarten Teacher Training as well as short courses in foreign languages, Computer and other on-demand-courses. 
  1. COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The collage offers short training courses in:Nutrition, Islamic culture, Handcrafts, Fine arts, Tailoring, Sanitation and hygiene promotion … 
  1. ALLIED SCIENCE COLLEGE
Established in 2004 to meet the severe need of qualified paramedical and medical assistant cadres. It offers 16 Diploma programs.The program of Nursing is open currently. Units
  1. BASIC SCIENCE UNIT
It is devoted to implement the programs of the preliminary year for all university B. A. - B. Sc. Level students. 
  1. DISTANCE LEARNING UNIT
It offers B.A and B .Sc programs in
